It’s 4:30 on Friday afternoon… about to close out a beautiful week of weather here in Winnipeg. Except that it’s pouring rain right now. I suppose we were due. Too bad though, I was hoping to try out my new roller blades this afternoon.

Another place I’m blogging regularly is at the Canada’s Web Shop Blog. No real surprise there since I’m the Director of Online Marketing.

My blogging schedule slipped as I haven’t written for Search Engine Journal in several weeks. I must get back to doing that.

It’s all so odd given that I’ve always emphasized that I’m NOT a writer – I’m a numbers girl. But that’s okay, I write these posts, encourage others to as well, and then I get to be all giddy over all the analytics.

I’m such a nerd. And that’s my Friday afternoon.

I’ve done the whole “I know I’ve been busy but I’m sure I’ll post more” thing, but it’s time to be honest!

Two months ago, I joined Canada’s Web Shop as the Director of Online Marketing. And it’s fantastic! I feel like I’m in a place that’s a great fit and working with clients is a fresh change from working in-house.

Part of my role is contributing regularly to both the blog and email newsletter for the Web Shop. On top of that, I’m also guest blogging biweekly over at Search Engine Journal.

Given that I’ve always said “I’m not a writer!” this has been quite a change! I figure one of two things will happen – either this blog will go quiet, or I’ll become so inspired about my new writing skills, I’ll be writing all the time.

So I’m going to leave you with that suspense. Stick around!

We’re sitting at the Calgary airport waiting to board our flight to Winnipeg where we’ll spend New Years Eve and the next few days with our friends and family there.

Since I’m just sitting here not really doing anything overly important, I figured I would blog.  But I really don’t have anything to blog about at this point in time – at least nothing that doesn’t require turning my brain on to full-strength and come up with something profound or exciting.

So I’ll just wish you all a very Merry Christmas and let you know that my new year’s resolution is to blog more. Hopefully that will keep you coming back.  I’m excited about the search and social media opportunities coming up for me in 2009 and really look forward to sharing my experiences with you.

Well, I never really professed that I was the best at keeping up with blogging, but I admit that 2007 hasn’t been the best year for keeping Lyndseo up-to-date. So what’s been happening?

In February, I accepted a position with WestJet , Canada’s leading low-cost airline. I was brought on to coordinate all the web analytics and SEO efforts, a job no one had done before.

Combined with jumping into the deep end of a very deep pool at WestJet, I began commuting from Winnipeg to Calgary, where WestJet’s offices are. For those not too familiar with Canadian geography, Calgary is 1,370km (850 miles) west of Winnipeg. Doesn’t make for too friendly of a daily commute, so I began living in Calgary during the week, and Winnipeg on the weekends. As fall approaches, my fiance and I are almost finished with our very slow and painful move to Alberta. I am here full time now, with Dave to follow after the September long weekend. He is the Web Programmer for Naylor Publications in Winnipeg, and he will continue his work in Calgary.

In June, I spoke on the SEO Don’t, Myths, and Scams panel at Search Engine Strategies Toronto. I feel it went well and am excited about my next speaking engagement – WebmasterWorld’s PubCon; located in Las Vegas from December 4-7.

So please keep tuned… as life starts to settle (or does it ever really?) I hope to keep this blog updated much more frequently.

So I’ve let my blog go for a bit, and I can’t promise that you’ll be seeing regular updates, but I did feel I should share what I’ve been doing with my time.

I am back to the world of in-house SEO. About six weeks ago, I accepted a job with WestJet Airlines. I am now working within the Web Business team, focusing on the stats and analytics for WestJet.com and its family of sites. I will also be heading the search engine optimization for WestJet’s sites as well, as a secondary project. I am very excited about my new position, and what I can do for Canada’s top low-cost carrier.

As I am required to be in Calgary, Alberta most of the week, I am currently not accepting new clients through Lyndseo.  Should you have any questions about our services, or a simple question about SEO, please feel free to contact me.  When I begin taking on more contracts, I will be sure to advise you.

1. I have a huge crush on Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts. The irony is that only 18 months ago, I didn’t even know what a “down” was, and now I’m a huge football fan.
2. I HATE snow and cold. And yet I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba – also known as “Winterpeg“. What’s that? It’s -40? What else is new. I was born and raised in the Niagara Falls, Ontario area though – I sure miss their winter climate.
3. I can solve the rubix cube in about 2 minutes or so.
4. I listen to country music almost exclusively. George Strait, Gary Allen, Toby Keith. My second choice of music would be 80s hair rock – Metallica, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, etc.
5. I’m a big Toronto Maple Leafs fan (ducks from all the flying objects being flung)

Sorry that’s not a more exciting list. If I think of something REALLY juicy… um… yeah right, you’ll be the first to know… hahaha

Well, first of all, getting up at 5:30 a.m. is a big change from getting up at 8:00, or 10:00 as my body thought it was, last week in San Jose. But that’s alright, I’ll be okay in a few days.

Just prior to me leaving for my trip, our IT department managed to crash the server that held everyone’s files. Beautiful. I never did get it straightened around before I left. I was gone for a full week, though, certainly it would be fixed by time I get back to work today, right?

Wrong… so under orders from the IT department, I could not use my computer until they had restored all my files and folders. But, hey, what a great opportunity to play with all the new stuff I got from the conference. The four of us in this corner are now all sporting squeeze-toy brains courtesy of Industry Brains and and The Karcher Group. Lovely!

I spent some time last night looking at SES pictures online, and I see that a couple other girls also made t-shirts for Matt Cutts. Well, I suppose it was silly to assume I’d be the only one wearing a shirt for Matt, but I am happier with the more subtle message mine sent out. I gotta get on Joe to send me that picture!

I’ll leave for home soon. This is going to be a very busy week – my significant other’s brother is getting married this weekend and the guests start arriving tomororw. Tonight is all about cleaning!
